We replaced a similar refrigerator, not because it was not operational after 15 years, but because it had been turned off accidentally while we were away and food spoiled and the residual odor could not be removed. Love the layout and lighting of the main compartment, the drawers particularly. Also, the exterior is sleek, modern and super easy to use the ice and water dispensers. Installation was simple, as it slipped right in to the existing cabinet space.

Nice Looking but Unreliable

I bought this refrigerator model approx 13 years ago. During this time period, I have had several failures resulting in food loss and much expense. The electronic board (the brains) has failed 3 times, the water filter connector seal failed causing a leak on my hardwood floors (floor buckled by the way), ice maker motor has failed twice. For the price of this unit, quality should be much better.

Do not buy. Will not last.

If you are ok with replacing your refrigerator every 11.5 years, buy it. But the fresh food (produce) drawers don't work well at all, the ice will clump and the ice dispenser will jam, the cold water from the door will taste funny no matter how many times you change the filter and flush it, the sealed system will break (a $2,000 repair), and everything else under the sun related to keeping food cold or frozen will break down after that. Even with the extended warranty for all the repairs, it's not that great of a fridge. The GE refrigerator in my garage has worked without a hitch for 20 years and the produce stays fresh and good twice as long. Why should I expect less for 5 times the price from KITCHEN AID?????

Our KitchenAid refrigerator died, and couldn't be repaired we were left with very few options for our space allotment. We had to go with a 48" counter depth fridge and this KitchenAid was cheapest one we could find. On sale, we found it for $9499.99. Left with no choice, living out of a cooler, we ordered it, and when it was installed 10 days later, it wouldn't work. We had to have the repair rep out to look at it, and after just a few minutes, he diagnosed it with a bad compressor. Nearly a week later, a new compressor was installed, and it has worked since.

Expensive, small refrigerator

I bought this refrigerator from build.com, and when it arrived and installed it would not cool. Repairman came out and diagnosed it with a bad compressor. A week later it was repaired, and is working fine for now. This refrigerator was on sale for $9355. Very expensive, being only 22 inches deep, but that's the space that we had, and this was cheaper than anything else we could find. It noisy, and the water dispenser just trickles out with the water pressure all the way up. I'm nervous for the length of time until it needs something more.

Bad product design

This fridge has leaked water from the drip pan overflowing since I bought it. It basically pours out a huge puddle on my custom hardwood floors about once a month. Whirlpool has sent out local repair companies 7 times now. They all determine that the drain pan is not big enough to hold all the water during defrost. They call the factory tech guys who just say "it must be too humid in your area". " Because we now have determined it's due to your environment, nothing can be done and we are not liable to replace it even though it's new". The fridge is in Hawaii, the guy making that determination is an office in Detroit or somewhere like that. I paid over 9000$ for this fridge to destroy my floors. They also said to just run my AC all day and night and that might work. My electric bill would be over 2000$ a month if I did that. Kitchenaid shouldn't be selling these fridges in Hawaii or any other warm places if they can't handle the climate. I will say the customer service people I have talked with have been friendly though, but I still have a 9000$ fridge that is destroying my floors with no remedy from Kitchenaid in site.

We bought this fridge and all other major kitchen appliances (by KitchenAid) after we lost everything in Harvey hurricane flooding in Houston. I am so sorry I bought this --I've had to replace this fridge twice in 3 months and the sad thing is that it does not keep our food fresh at all. It always smells bad and food spoils so easily in there. Hate this fridge. I used to have a Samsung and thought this would perform better but it does not. The Samsung is a far more superior product and less expensive. It's a bad refrigerator and I'd never buy another one again. It's great if you don't mind going to the store every other day to buy fresh food. I have it set to the recommended settings and still, thngs going moldy in my fridge after 2 or 3 days. GROSS. Never again and wish I could get my old fridge back but I've spent too much $$$ on this ---What a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Pl,ease folks--DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!!!

Nice fridge, but had issues within one week

After fridge was installed, within one week, water leaked out of the inside of the freezer onto the floor. Technician was called & checked it all out, but could not determine exactly why it happened. It has been 5 days since he was here & it has not leaked so far. Also, the drawer front on one of the freezer drawers was bad. It kept pulling off when pulling drawer out. Technician re-ordered & we received it a couple days later. It works ok, but the design on these drawer fronts should be better than they are. The third issue we had was that when dispensing whole cubes, the ice cube dispenser was partially crushing ice with the cubes. The technician had to re-order a new ice cube dispenser which is on backorder. He could not tell me when I would receive & I have not heard from anyone when I will receive. To be fair, it has only been 5 working days since he was here, but I was hoping to hear from someone letting me know when I can expect a replacement.

This replaced its 20-yr-old ancestor.

And it fit right into the old cabinet. Only flaw: the tiny plastic hinges on the door top covered compartment lid broke when it was 2 months old. A replacement door was sent out and it came in broken at the same flimsy hinge. A third got here whole, but we are very cautious with opening it. Not made for strength. Otherwise, the design improvements are great, the ease of use is too, which is why we wanted another Kitchenaid, even though the price had more than tripled. Makes one wonder why a similar size fridge NOT a built-in costs thousands less. This may be a stupid question, but why can the freezer not be set to any temp higher than 0 degrees? Gelato likes 10 degrees or it's rock-hard.

How long do these last?

Refrigerators used to last 15-20 yrs. This one is lucky to last 10. We had our cabinets custom made around the first one, so when it died after 8 1/2 yrs, we purchased the same model. The second one has been installed for 10 1/2 yrs and has just died! So, the takeaway is, if you don't mind spending 10k every 8-11 yrs for a fridge, purchase this one! So frustrating....

VERY small veg bins. Door shelves are ridged; nothing stands steadily, the guards in front of the shelves are too high so getting jars and bottles difficult to get in and out.. This is our second KitchenAid 48" wide counter depth refrigerator. Installed the first one when our home was newly constructed in 1999, performing flawlessly for an active family of 5. We could have downsized to a smaller refrigerator, but my wife and I were so pleased with the features, quality and style, we chose direct replacement. It is a centerpiece in our kitchen and compliments the new KitchenAid dishwasher and double oven, which are also replacements for original units.

I had a KitchenAid 48" refrigerator that was 15 years old. So I purchased a new one, the size hadn't changed much and it looks perfect and the fit was great. I liked the new layout where the ice storage is on the freezer door and the staggered crisper drawers in the refrigerated section. The think I like the most is there are small lights all along each side that keep the contents well lit and easy to view. Best of all this unit came with a water filter unlike my old KitchenAid. Now I don't buy bottled water.

ice maker broke twice in 2 months

We bought this thing brand new and the ice maker went out in the first 2 weeks. We then had it fixed, and 1 month later, the ice maker broke again.

Our new, replacemet refrigrator

Last month we purchased our new refrigerator after spending nearly $2,000.00 for the repair of the old one (not KitchenAid). Our new KitchenAid refrigerator not only looks good, it is also very quiet, and works fine. We are very pleased with this purchase.

Wow! Very Nice

Wow..Love this new refrigerator. Roomier than our old built in. Right of the bat runs super quiet and less frequent. The shelf space is ideal and holds more. When our old built in refrigerator was having problems (different brand) the repairman recommended Kitchen-Aid and one other. He said he has the fewest calls for these 2 brands. After doing some comparisons, the Kitchen-Aid came out on Top personally. Have only had it a month, but so far Love, Love, Love it. Hope to update this review as time goes by.

Happy with my beautiful new refrigerator and hubby is too

My husband wanted me to wait on a new refrigerator but our GE monogram was on it's last frustrating legs. I remodeled and went with Kitchen Aid. I am happy that I did. I have appreciated the water and ice function, the interior and exterior design and the space. With a purchase this big, I wanted it to be perfect, and for us, it is just right. I am so glad my husband likes it too!

Broke on the first day - over a week to get serviced

We bought this fridge for our new house and it's been a nightmare. We had it installed and everything was working fine and it seemed to start cooling down so we waited 24 hours for it to stabalize. The next day we opened the doors only to find it was warm inside and had already broken down. We called the installers who were nice enough to come and check it out within a couple of hours but they couldn't solve the problem and pointed us to Kitchenaid for service. We set up an appointment through the service center who couldn't get anyone in the entire San Francisco Bay Area to come out for several days. The appointment time came and went so we called again, only to find out the appointment was set up for an entirely different day two days later than what they had told us. The day before we called to confirm that someone was actually coming only to find out the service company had rejected the service request because KitchenAid told them we lived in a different city that they don't service (They told them we were in San Francisco when we live in Oakland). We're now a week into living in our new house and still do not have a working fridge. I regret buying this fridge and will never buy KitchenAid appliances again.

Another KitchenAid appliance is part of my kitchen!

I now have a KitchenAid dishwasher, a KitchenAid oven and a KitchenAid refrigerator. I still need a new cook top! So far I am loving all of my KitchenAid appliances. I still have my trusty old KitchenAid mixer that my mother gave me years ago. Now I have given one to my daughter in a very pretty blue!

Good Features and Space for Built-in

We have only had the fridge for a couple weeks but it is working out well. We do notice that items in the fridge will freeze if put on the back of the top left shelf but we've not had time to make any adjustments yet.

Excellent Built in

Had my previous KitchenAid 48 inch Built in for 16 years and it was great, Love the new one even more. Looks great and all the parts of the refrigerator work smoothly. Tons of storage that is layed out so that everything is easy to get to.
