We had some trouble with our original order from KitchenAid. After receiving several delivery updates our order was cancelled with no notification. I didn™€™t find out until I went online to get another update. We ordered successfully from a local store. We like the ice but I mistakenly thought the ice was soft like Sonic ice. It is small but not soft like Sonic.

This WAS my favorite ice machine, however the factory does not ship new machines with a filter cartridge. The filters restrict water flow which prevents ice production. ADU serviced 4 times , and even replaced entire machine .......which unfortunently has the SAME problem. HELP ! Can Kitchen Aid help me ! Or can anyone, including an appliance tech help resolve this issue ? I would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks, John H.

Throw $3000 into a Fire not this JUNK!

Terrible product. Worse service. Warranty repairs three times in first year. Service is via contractors of variable quality / 3 times to fix problems for 2 - 3 months, then it breaks again.. Product is now 15 months old. KitchenAid warranty line says "pound sand" product is out of warranty. Never had more than 2 - 3 months without ice maker failing. Waste of $3,000. NEVER WILL I EVER PURCHASE ANYTHING MADE BY KITCHENAID. I

Great Ice, Worthless Warranty

I have owned several of these. They produce great ice. For the latest one I purchased, the "Built-In Drain Pump System" failed and KitchenAid/Whirlpool refuses to cover it under warranty. They claim that since they happen to also sell the units without drain pump and that you _can_ later add the drain pump that the drain pump is NOT covered. The facts are: * The marketing says this has a "Built-In Drain Pump System" (see the web page). * The one without the drain pump included has a DISTINCT product number (KUID318 rather than KUID508). * The drain pump came installed from KitchenAid, it was NOT added after the fact by the dealer or me. * The warranty document says nothing about not covering the drain pump. So buy this for the great ice but be prepared to be scammed by KitchenAid/Whirlpool if the drain pump fails.

Had it less than a month and it already stopped making ice. Trying to call for repair is difficult- you wait on hold forever. Ice maker was delivered August 14th. September 4th it stopped making ice. Finally got serviceman out here September 12th. He said he fixed it. Went to get ice tonight and it won™€™t even turn on. $2000 and it won™€™t even turn on. Whirlpool says please contact customer service and all they do is set up repair appointment a week later. But they keep calling to ask me to buy an extended service plan.

Avoid at all costs!

Avoid Kitchenaid free standing ice makers at all cost. They fail at the 3 year mark. My first one was purchased in November 2016 and three years later failed. I had to replace with the newer model as the one I had was discontinued. Unfortunately I needed to get Kitchenaid again so it would match my other appliances and fit in the built in space. 3 years later - the ice maker failed again! The control board needed replacing, the intake valve and solenoid, and the bin sensor! It™€™s exactly 3 years later and the machine has failed again! Of course it™€™s out of warranty, so I need to find someone who can come diagnose, service and replace parts. Avoid Kitchenaid ice makers - unless you are prepared for costly repairs every 3 years.

Just over a year old, needs new drain pump($700)

I have to believe we were sold a refurbished machine as new. Purchased 4/2024. 6/2025 we are putting a new $370 drain pump in. We also learn the machine did NOT come with a FILTER! Went to replace it and NO filter! I could have purchased a used machine for $1000 from a friend. Instead we purchased new to avoid issues. Thank heaven for YouTube. I figured out the problem on my own and fixed it myself or we would be out way more! NOT a happy customer. Probably would have been around $700 to have it fixed! The pump alone is $370. A service call is $200.

Just over a year old. $370 drain pump went out.

Purchased 4/20/2024. On 6/6/2025 the drain pump went out! The part alone is $370! For a $2800 ice maker purchased new. It had no power yesterday. Learned the main power is plugged into the drain pump, the drain pump into the wall. When the drain pump goes out it powers down, for good reason. I tried to post pics. Wouldn™€™t let me even though there is a place allowed for pics and video. I love this ice maker when it works. Makes great tasting ice with 0 impurities. I™€™ve tested it. I melt ice for coffee/tea and water. Hope others fair better than we did. Hope we aren™€™t headed toward a domino of break downs. I™€™m gonna pray over it.🙏🏻 Very sad. Torn about my rating.

Terrible Machine

ZERO Stars. We have had this machine for just over two years. In year one there was an issue with the compressor and we were lucky enough to get it fixed just prior to the warranty expiring. After they "fixed" the issue it only took another year for the same thing to happen. Lucky us, we get to pay for the service technician to come out and diagnosis that there is obviously something mechanically wrong with the ice maker. Kitchenaid Whirpool has the worst CSR as they only read from a script and are unable to actually help or provide any actual assistance. The only option they had for us was to spend more money on an extended service plan which definitely makes sense for them. This is the last appliance we ever purchase from them.

We replaced the same icemaker with a new one. The old one was going to cost over $1,000 to repair. We like the new one, but we were very disappointed that the old one only lasted six years. These are expensive appliances and should last much longer, especially being a KitchenAid brand.

Okay while it lasted

Bought the 18 inch undercounter ice machine in mid 2019. Made pretty good ice but had issues with the thermostat that tells the icemaker to make more ice or stop making ice ( I had to replace that). Two weeks ago it stopped making ice altogether (as soon as warranty was out) and had to have a Kitchenaid appointed service rep come out to diagnose the issue. Said it has to be a seal issue with the compressor but you have to replace the entire refrigerant system and would be around 1200 to fix and suggested I buy a new one. I was given the actual quote to repair ( $2614.75) which is a non-starter, so I basically paid them $160 to tell me to buy a new icemaker. I would have hoped to get longer use out of a Kitchenaid product.

It's the only ice maker that is 18" wide which is what we need to fill the open space in our kitchen. We bought our first one in 2004, that died and got another one in 2016 and that died last year. I'm assuming this one will break down as soon, or sooner. These work fine until they don't...and that breakdown point comes sooner and sooner. I'd never buy one of these again if I had a choice.

I think the things that matter most are to replace the filter when it says to and use the flushing of the tank fluid and I also think a water softener banks the appliance last longer this still makes great ice love it

Do NOT buy one these. I bought this model a little more than 5 years ago. Since purchase it has been the subject of 4 service calls. A month ago I was told the ice maker was not working because of a failure in the control board. I tried to buy a new control board but the service technician told me that the part was on back order and there was no information about when this part would become available. I was told the same by the customer service representative at KitchenAid Parts and that my only option was to put my name on a list ( which the technician had already done). I was told that a supervisor would call me back, this never happened. Two weeks ago I sent a detailed email to the Whirlpool Customer Experience. I have not received a response. KitchenAid does not seem to care about the post purchase experience of their customers.

I was very excited to get an ice machine, especially for the summer. We installed it in July and it has never worked. Kitchen Aid warranty claim department took several weeks to get a repair tech out and he discovered the control board was bad. This is a brand new appliance. We asked to just exchange it for a new one. It is September and we still have no resolution and an ice machine that has yet to work. Ugh!!

Bad pump stopped working

The ice machine stopped working just a few weeks after install. We had to initiate a repair by an authorized repair team & they determined the pump is bad and needs replaced. Unfortunately, we are in the same situation with our brand new JennAir dishwasher which was installed the same day. It is being replaced by the store we bought it from. Seems like Whirlpool is having an issue with their pumps? Not a good experience to finish off our major kitchen remodel. Been happy with KitchenAid in the past so this is very disappointing.

This ice machine makes an abundant amount of beautiful clear cubes. It™€™s a great size. The only negative is having to unscrew the front plate to vacuum the coils. We™€™re older and accessing the screws is a little tricky. Otherwise, it™€™s a great machine.
